Requiem For A Lost Love Poem by Jeff Stoddart

Requiem For A Lost Love

Rating: 5.0

Love won't be denied, if you take things in your stride
Sounds like good advice...but now there's no one at my side
And time washes clean all loves wounds unseen
I know 'cos someone told me, but I don't know what it means
And I did everything I knew to try and make you mine
And I know I'm going to love you for a long, long, time.

Caught in my fear and blinking back a tear
I can't say you hurt me, for you never came that near
and I never drew much response from you
Even all the time I hoped, even though you never knew
So I did everything I could to try and make you mine
Now I know it's going to hurt me for a long, long time.

I dreaded waiting for the day that I knew you'd go away
But no one ever told me of the price I'd have to pay
And life is full of loss, yet who amongst us knows the cause?
I now live in a memory of a love that nearly was
But I did everything I could to try and make you mine
And I know I'm going to miss you for a long, long, time.
