'Rescue Not' Poem by Bob James

'Rescue Not'

Isn't it strange to have spent so much time drowning that you are afraid to get out of the water? The ocean, these depths, the place beneath these waves, is now home. When it's all you've known for so long, the thought of anything else is even more terrifying. When did breathing become more terrifying than drowning? When was the last time that I wasn't afraid of something?
