Resilience (Petrarchan Sonnet) Poem by Keith Horton

Resilience (Petrarchan Sonnet)

The love that lives inside the soul of man-

its light, now dimmed by all it has endured;

obscured and muted—stripped down to the core

and buried in the depths of selfish sand-

our flame of unity, no longer fanned;

the dove of peace and freedom strains to soar;

the silenced voice of our compassion's roar

is more than my torn heart can understand

Then all at once, when every hope seems lost

a happening awakens us at last;

a common thread we use to try to mend;

a cause we deem as worthy of the cost.

We gather all our lessons from the past;

with fortitude and strength, we rise again
