Retirement Poem by Toshie Nohara

Retirement

Rating: 4.0

All people have a choice
When they retire from their careers
They can embrace retirement with
grace and thankfulness
Or abuse it with
greed and foolishness

It is their second lease of life
There's freedom from work- no more strife
There's time to smell the flowers
There's time to read newspapers
There's peace to go fishing
There's fun to go dancing
There's pleasure
There's much leisure
There's contentment after
retirement when we know how to
live life at a slower pace
When we stop to race with
others

Wise retired people are blessed when they
spend time with families
And friends
Or make amends
To have good relationship

But...
Retirement can rob anyone if
they fall into the
trap of selfishness
Out of restlessness they
Become T.V. addicts
Unhealthy food and snacks
become their happiness!
Out of control
Doing what they want
Overeating obsessed them
Poor health haunts them
Surely not a right way to
enjoy retirement.

How very true, indeed, retirement will create health and happiness if people keep open and active.Thank you for share, beautiful penning!

Great poem on the subject of retirement and what it means to most of the people. This is a whiff of fresh air but we have to be wary of things which can spoil this blissful phase in a retiree's life. Thanks for sharing the same.

Thanks for your kind comment. I believe a retiree's life can be as meaningful as any working people.I was a teacher and after retirement I now admire nature's beauty and two years ago, I discovered PH and I submit poems to share with the members..
