Return To The Ink Poem by Robert William Schmitz

Return To The Ink

It's about time I picked this pen back up
It's been far too long
It's time that I continued this song
The time never stopped
Just kept rocking a tick tock tocking
Thought the reason I flowed was because of you
Now that you're gone I see that this isn't true
No more nights spent talking to the sink
Vile loneliness an eruption in pain
Its time I've returned back to this ink
What have I done, destroyed myself in vain
If there's one thing I've learned, you can't please everyone
Content for myself I yearn, I can no longer run
So now I'm back no heart crack ready to attack
But I feel like I've been here before
A band aid covers an old wound almost healed
But I'm too afraid to rip it off and get some much needed air
Everyone keeps looking at me, a never ending stare
Caught in the judgmental snare, now I know its time to go
Got everything I need in this sack gonna take off
Leavin everything here in the Midwest
Out to search for the rest, to be the best
No more rest for me, cast off to sail this sea,
I finally feel free, able to rock, jock and breathe.
Take a deep inhale, dropp the sail, stretch the wings
Belt out and sing, for everything you ever wanted
Everything you ever needed it's all within your grip
All you have to do is just take a quick trip.
