As I ponder what Merdeka is today;
I fail to immerse in one thing;
The one thing they had aspired.
I fail to partake within the real aspirations of Merdeka;
The aspirations our forefathers endeavoured;
The aspiration they paid beyond their lives and souls.
Today’s Merdeka seem an ephemeral gala;
Their Merdeka then was only a hope;
A hope sprouting amidst perished bodies.
Their hopes never diminished though;
For they epitomised the endeavour for Merdeka;
A hope that survived beyond their perished bodies.
Neither the colours nor the celebrations of today;
Match the arduous battles they braved;
The battle that they triumphed for our pleasure.
Let the hymns of Merdeka reverberate;
Commemorating their glory;
Forgetting not our quintessential forefathers.

I like this one very much; Inspiring merdeka poem from Maha. I doubt the true meaning of 'merdeka' is well understood by the younger generation. I wish they could re-visit the 'merdeka' spirit as what that has been drawn by the three Tuns - Tunku, Tun V Sambanthan & Tun Tan Cheng Lock, :)
