Reverence For Life Poem by Edwina Reizer

Reverence For Life

Oh how precarious life is now.
No one knows what to do.
Should we close our eyes and shut our ears
and pray for miracles to come true?
Or stand up tall and hope for the best
and abolish all of our fears?
The tenuous situation in the Gulf
is affecting the life we revere.

But reverence for life is based on love
and a future without it is bleak.
The wave of violence and stupidity
seems to be at its peak.
We sleep through truth and awaken to lies
and resign ourselves to fate.
And sense and sensibility in most of us
is hanging like a weight.

This weight is an albatross around our neck
that's been choking us for too long.
We've allowed the few to rule the many
and hidden from what is wrong.
Is it too late?
Only time will tell.
No one knows for sure.
But I offer my my prayers for Mother earth
in the hopes that she will endure.
