Where does light begin and end?
Does light no shadow portend?
If one cannot be without the other,
who can contend?
That light without shadow is God intend'd?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Weathered cliff-stairs, half a million steps. Trudged to make an asking, Laurinc arrived at the amber-cave. Lit by one torch, the walls glowed auburn hues - she wanted wisdom, and detested ignorance. The man sat in silence. His eyes were shut. Prattled he did, saying:
