Rise Oh Phoenix Poem by tawanda omphile plaatjie

Rise Oh Phoenix

It is almost 4am
You do not know how glad I am
It is not about being inadequate
But seeing myself as immaculate

Allow myself to self-destruct
Be one with dust
Toss and turn about
A pair of teary eyes wide awake in the night

When dawn comes I rise
Like a phoenix from the ashes
Fire remnants of my hopes and dreams
Now I rise a stronger woman

Once my eyes burnt of a fire of pain
The tears came down like heavy rain
Now only flames of love and serenity ignite
A love able to re-birth from ashes

Set yourself on fire for a change
In the agony breathe out all the rage
Be a phoenix for you sanity
Even if they accuse you of vanity
I promise you will rise

Rise phoenix rise
Rise to immortality
