Rorschach Poem by Nicolas Palacios

Rorschach

Two brothers standing back to back,
A sick young shepherd’s heart attack,
Coins dropp down an empty well,
The gates open to the bowels of hell.
These malevolent things I see,
Haunting my childhood memories,
Violating my purest sanctity,
I'm on the brink of insanity.
“What do you see? ” Asks the doctor,
“Don’t leave out the details Mr. Proctor,
You’re guilty and shamed, and I’ll ask you again,
What do you see, Mr. Proctor? ”
The brothers have blood on their hands…
They killed what looks like an innocent man,
And they show no guilt.
The sick young shepherd is feeling faint,
His death reminds me of a flower’s wilt,
It’s slow and sad, and you wish to help,
But I cannot save him.
The clang of the coins from up above,
Drop out of pockets of my greatest love,
I stand above her with a wire and scars,
The cuts on her neck show us who we are,
The gates, the fire, make me feel at home,
At last, at last! I’m not alone,
I walk inside to meet similar men,
But am shocked, when I meet death again.
“Proctor, I think that you need some help.
Lucky for you, I know just who to tell.
Safety is my first concern,
So we will keep you until you learn.
Is it comfortable here for you, Mr. Proctor? ”
All of a sudden the room got hotter.
“You’re one of my favorite patients, sir,
You’ll be here a while, haunted by her.”
I look around, sweating and shaking,
My body is burnt and my skin is flaking,
It seems so surreal to be where I am,
But I see her standing, a delicate lamb.
I strayed from the shepherd; I fell from the flock,
My love went without me, I was so shocked,
The ringing of coins still echoes in my ears,
Oh the suffering I’ve deserved for all these years…
My brother and I are one in the same,
My sister turned me in with a false name,
I forgot what mine is, just what the doctor tells me,
I am now Mr. Proctor, do you see what I see?
