The roses of our anniversary
I gave you weeks ago
Still stand in the dry light of the kitchen window
Their eyebrows now pursed and veined
Into brittle smiles of wonder
Love is such
As this
Fading bouquet
Hidden in its quiet face
Is all that
we know
Today
In the giving
Of this wordless spray
Of hope
To the treasure of another day
In this little kingdom of us
