Sadness My Old Friend Poem by Jake Javes

Sadness My Old Friend

Sadness is an old friend of mine
She loves wasting the sands of time
She adores the empty skies at night.
Finds beauty in things that are blind to sight

She might have crippled and chained me
But teaches new kindness I've never seen
She might have lead me to lies and deceit
But it is just a test of will and heart.

She shows up and leaves unannounced
Strangles me invisibly without a sound
But I know she doesn't want me dead
Just wants me to forever rest in my bed.

Sometimes I hope she soon passes away
So I will be glad that for awhile she stayed
But there's no need for her to be haste
For bitterness is an acquired taste.

It's a first draft. Thank you.
