Safety In Windows Poem by Faith Wood

Safety In Windows

There's no one watching,
no visitor knocking on your door
There's no one listening
No one calling that you've never asked for
There's only you and
your places for hiding
There's only you and
the walls you've been confiding
Rather talk your way in travel
and never sleep
Rather be surfacing the entrance
so your heart doesn't leap
and latch its self onto someone,
just like a leech
Instead, you're confined and alone,
deserted on a beach
You gave it all away
for safety in windows
You gave up your persistence,
let friends like starfish drift
Taken aback by the glare,
you allowed time for thoughts to sift
And still you haven't a clue
to answer the what, why, or how
and you formulate new questions
like 'why am I not with her right now? '
