I am torn apart
by the consequences
of the inevitable -
until all that's left
is a feeble shell;
yet I love you still,
my sons, my world,
my men, my people.
I love how you swagger
and laugh despite everything.
I love how trees and grass
still reach the horizon.
I love how water and earth
still hold things together
somehow, beneath the sun
where we all gasp at once
even though we're far apart,
existing almost impossibly
in different spaces of the same heart.
