Sanctuary Poem by Angela Wybrow

Sanctuary

It is one of my favourite places;
Where there is no need for any airs or graces.
It is a place where I can be me;
Where I can feel safe and not lost at sea.

It isn't very far from our neighbourhood;
It is a place where I feel understood.
When I am there, I don't feel alone;
It is a place where much kindness is shown.

When I am there, time seems to fly;
My soul comes alive and my spirit soars high.
Problems and worries disappear for a while,
And, when I am there, I can't help but smile.

It is a place where I feel protected;
Where, with other people, I feel connected.
There, I can be candid, honest and real,
And not be afraid to discuss how I feel.

It is a place where I can feel calm;
Where I can take refuge and feel free from harm.
There, I can be sincere, open and true;
It cheers me up whenever I'm feeling blue.

I feel accepted for the person I am.
I love the hot chocolate and biscuits filled with red jam.
I love the chatter and the music that's played;
Hugs are shared and great memories are made.

It is a world of grey, black and white,
And all other colours, burning so bright.
Being there really helps me to cope;
It brings me joy and it gives me real hope.
