Saved By His Dog Poem by ERNEST CLARY

Saved By His Dog

Sitting in the woods
a little off the road
contained all his goods
where he abode

old joe was sleeping in the dark
when his dog began to bark
realizing he wasnt chasing game
he awoke to see the flame

the fire started about eight forty five
lost all he had
but came out alive

we responded as quick as could be
brought all the trucks we had
my fellow firemen and me

we did all we could do to put out the fire
exhausting ourselves
pulling our hoses through the mire

though his home was a complete disaster
he was grateful his dog barked
and saved master

based on a true event
