Saving Grace Poem by Ibn Ali

Saving Grace

If one thing should save me
One act of penance
Then I gave her up for You
Your mercy is better than a universe of hers
But man is weak
And she is my weakness unified
Everything desire deems important
I gave up every portent
Every kiss
Because I could not have her how You ordered
Though I wished
And I had her
I remember standing in the moment
In the snow
Before a foot could tread a path and make her land discovered
She offered herself whole
Everything I wanted to hear
She spoke
In this world there are few things that I want more
Than her
My soul is in consensus
Even so I keep him tempered
And I bear the loss of her with muzzled hurt
What's seen can't be unseen
What's felt cannot be forcibly suppressed
You can't fein composure
When a bow throws an arrow through your chest
The tongue and teeth combine
Mostly for speech
Sometimes though in their haste to meet they cause a mess
