He refused to ever say good-bye
It was something he just wouldn’t do
So when we’d gather for anything
He’d not say the word it’s true
The wonderful times we had with him
Were filled with pinochle and good meals
He would watch everybody get ready
When we’d get that leavin’ feel
The time would come for us to go
But there was never the word good-bye
He’d say hello instead but...
His expression was just a disguise
But of course, nothing lasts forever
And Charlie had to leave one day
A difficult time for everyone
We sure wanted him to stay
So when we dig out the pictures
Of when Charlie was here with us
We share our precious memories
He wouldn’t want us to make a fuss
But when we start to leave we think
How goodbye was something he’d dread
It brings a smile when we remember
Charlie would want to hear ‘hello’ instead!
