Scared Army Wife Poem by shannon wright

Scared Army Wife

Rating: 3.5

Its not the loneliness that gets me
But the worrying when I hear nothing.
I start praying that this blackout
is for someone else.

Anyone else.

I never want to see those dress blues
Walk up my sidewalk.

Somber faces, hat in hand,
Your fate in their mouth.

Anyone else.

I would follow you to the afterlife
Right there on the spot.

If the words are ever spoken
“we are so sorry ma’am”.

Anyone else.

Please let it be anyone else
But you.
