School Poem by Joanna Hamilton

School

A living silence
Roams through the halls
A memory of days passed
I feel the dread creeping
Up my spine as I walk
Down the darkened paths
My hair stands on end as
Goosebumps appear on my skin
And a gate is closed behind me
The metal clank sending
Shivers down my back as
The air turns cold around me
My legs try to run as I tell
Myself to clam down
Because I’m not really afraid.
Noise erupts from the
Blackness around me as
Lights come flickering on
Life has returned to this
Desolate place as
The people come wandering in
