Joanna Hamilton Poems

The whistle blowing in the night
The cargo whispers silently
Death closing in around them
Freedom growing nearer
...

When my life has ended,
Remember my promise to stay with you always
For your life will just begin
...

There are no words for this
this aching, groaning, growling, moaning
feeling inside
like everything is frozen solid
...

I want to be remembered
Long after I’m gone
Not as a student
A philosopher, or a writer…
...

You thought you could keep me here,
hold me back,
but you're wrong.
I’m gone,
...

Whistles fill the sky
Day and night
We are here
Most will not go back
...

7.

The walls crumble
The windows shatter
The doors fall as their guards
Leak life on to the floor
...

Before the bombs,
Before the guns,
Before the death dealers came
...

You do not know me
I do not know you.
But that’s okay,
Sit and stay
...

10.

Flowers on the wall
Watching the days pass us by
Waiting to grow tall
...

11.

Tears spill over
As I read the page -
The tale of what
Could’ve happened.
...

12.

Listen to the silence girl
It whispers secrets
In the dark
Only you can hear.
...

You left me.
I’m all alone
In this world
Without you.
...

You know the silence that covers the graves?
It covers the soul as well;
Dragging you down into the darkness
That buries the dead again,
...

we built it high;
we let it fall;
it all came
crumbling
...

You shouldn’t have this power over me
It’s been far too long
For me to react this way
Every time I see you,
...

It's okay
We'll make it all
Better
You were never
...

18.

my head
spins unevenly as the
world tilts and turns
topsy
...

19.

Canoes? All right then
Shall we go canoeing…or kayaking?
Shall we go?
We shall go canoeing
...

The garden sweet with new flower smells
The air gentle with new morning sighs
The ground soft with tears pooled in wells
As they fall silently from the skies
...

Joanna Hamilton Biography

I love writing. I write poems and stories - I've written a book. Writing is a hobby for me, mostly because I do not see writing as a practical career for myself. I'm going to be a Paleobiologist one day. Though it is just a hobby I do hope to one day publish a book of my poems and stories.)

The Best Poem Of Joanna Hamilton

Midnight Train (Slaves' Escape)

The whistle blowing in the night
The cargo whispers silently
Death closing in around them
Freedom growing nearer
Suspense overwhelming

Free! Free! Free!
The cargo has arrived safely
Life is restored
By a Friend with a friend

Air! Fresh air!
Gasping for breath
Running
Running again

The past catching up
Gunshots sound
Dogs bark wildly
North! We must go north!

The document signed
Nowhere is safe
Nowhere is free
Not anymore

Fear seeping in
The past approaching quickly
Freedom getting closer
The chase coming to a close

“Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty we are free at last! ”
