It is a conclusion based on partial knowledge. Science isn't a conclusive knowledge of all the universe but a quest to keep learning and discovering.
As scientists, we can't claim we have known it all. We don't fully understand black holes, we have no idea what dark energy or dark matters are or how they form or what they do, we just know they exist.
We haven't explored 0.0001% of the known universe yet we agree that the known universe could be less than 0.0001 of the actual universe out there. We haven't even been to Mars which is the closest planet to us. If the known universe is the distance between the north and south poles, earth to Mars will be like the distance between your pinky and your ring finger. Yet, we can't say we conclusively know what's on Mars. Heck, we haven't even finished exploring our own oceans.
So imagine the arrogance in claiming any assertion about the entire universe is a conclusion.
My point is, Science doesn't know nearly enough to be so adamantly conclusive about anything in the universe.
Any scientist that so vehemently insists there is no God is not being true to the discipline but is rather trying to be sensational.
How Science works is, as far as you haven't seen it all today, you might discover something tomorrow that makes what you know today totally rubbish.
We thought we knew the earth was flat. Just a few months ago, we could swear the universe was expanding uniformly, recent findings has now shown that isn't necessarily true.
We think we have figured out gravity right now but we could make a discovery tomorrow that tells us we don't know shit about it yet.
As a scientist, I am not saying there is a God definitely but I have learnt that the most scientific statement there ever is is, 'I don't Know! ' Because this is how the quest to know begins.
Hence, the only valid scientific response to the question of the existence of God is, 'We don't have any verifiable evidence for nor any conclusive evidence against it.'
