Science Fiction; Our New Reality Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Science Fiction; Our New Reality

The books we read long years ago,
The movies that we used to see,
Have stepped right out of storybooks,
To live and breathe with you and me.

A thinking mind inside a box,
Once felt like tales of sci-fi art,
Now talking AI helps us work,
And sits right in our pocket's heart.

We wear a glass and leave the earth,
To walk in worlds of code and light,
Where digital and real become
One blended place of day and night.

With tools to cut and paste our genes,
Like Gattaca foretold in pain,
We cure the sick, but walk a line
Of questions we must ask again.

No longer just for states and flags,
Now private ships take off for space,
With Mars in sight and tourists flying
To find a brand new starry place.

And Big Brother is watching close,
Through cameras and a coded eye,
Where algorithms know our thoughts,
And track the choices we walk by.

The magic future of the past,
Is not a dream so far away;
The science fiction on the page
Has turned into our world today.
