Sea Poem by Eric H

Sea

I am standing on the seashore.
A ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts off for the blue ocean.
She is an object of majestic beauty.
I stand and watch her, powerless, until, she fades like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky become intimate with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, There, she is gone...
Gone, where? I say.
I realize she is gone from my sight, that is all.
She is just as large in mast, hull, and magnificent sails as she was when she left me here.
And she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to the port of her choosing.
Her diminished size is inside of me......not in her.
And just at that moment, when someone says, There, she is gone.....There are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to shout, Here, she comes! ......
And that, my friends, is pain, that, is what dying feels like.
