Sea Of Souls Poem by Fiona Burgess

Sea Of Souls

Rating: 3.5

Sunlight dances joyously upon an ocean of souls
That frollick and play carelessly amongst the white capped rolls
The chatter, and laugh, and gossip endlessly
Their past lives forgotten as they wreak havoc in eternity
One by one, they're plucked from the sea
And cast back into mundane reality
Whispered words in their unhearing ears
'Let's see what you can learn in the coming years.'
As their feet set out, once again, on well travelled roads
Gathering to their hearts, staggering emotional loads
Forgotten is the ocean, caressed by a smiling sun
Gone is the knowledge they held, aware only of things yet to be done.
And the years stroll by like soldiers sedately marching
Above them, below them, eternity watching
For some the lessons they're given are learned
And gained, the knowledge for which they yearned
For others the years are wasted in idle ways
No other desire than to see an end of days
How sad for them, to never learn, the omnipotence of time
That every life they ever live is nothing short of divine
They'll never know how it feels to hold such vast knowledge
Weak willed beings such as they, will never be blessed with courage.
So at the end of their wasted years
Their passing will not be met with tears
And once again they'll be tossed back into the sea of souls
Where sunlight dances ceaselessly upon the white capped rolls.
