Sea Roars The Last Mantra Poem by John thebarman

Sea Roars The Last Mantra

Sea Roars the Last Mantra (Tràigh Varlish, Vatersay)

I passed the most westerly house,
and through the last gate
to the roaring sea,

‘Om, gaté, gaté, paragaté, parasamgaté.'

Footprints led to the sea,

‘Om, gaté, gaté, paragaté, parasamgaté'
‘Gone, gone, gone beyond, completely gone',
roared the mantra.

House gone too.
