See Through The Eyes Of The Urban Child Poem by Melissa Coventry

See Through The Eyes Of The Urban Child

Rain, and rain, and rain…
Down upon us,
And soak and swell,
Of the cave of mind,
And flow into streams,
That cleanses life,
Washes away life…
That aids new life to grow.

Humanity shines the light,
Of a man made beacon,
Into the grottos of the urban,
Where grown up infants,
Cling to life,
As dampen does to fog,
To survive the harsh life,
And suffer with brown water to imbibe.

With no shadow behind us,
As we live in the dark,
Our minds on a narrow rocky path,
With no cross road up ahead.
Yet in contrast,
The child of the city,
Sees light through the tunnel,
And an end they cannot reach.

So aid with money or aid with love,
The little battlers of the down trod capitals,
Eats less than you or I,
But sees more with those,
Owl wide eyes than we dare perceive.
