Self Fulfilling Prophecy Poem by Kim Dang

Self Fulfilling Prophecy

It's my almost self fulfilling prophecy
to act as if independence is entertaining
enough to be everlasting.
To count what I can do with-out
living by these omissions
Stripped down, I'm mentally ascetic
Take a peak at what which maintains my sanity
I'll give those monks something to envy.

I've decided long ago I can grow solo
Even with my network of support, they'll all grow old
I'm intensely content with self reassurances in
The Temporary.
Like I'll raise this child on my own,
no need for messy endings.

The tip of my tongue habituated by inhibitions
A well of no's have accrued
I'm too ready to say no to you.
It's easier to be a skeptic of fairy tales
To forever silent the wedding bells
My jade is too dark to reconsider that maybe
I could love as well.

I'm one whole, I'm leaving no gaps
for another half to be filled.
I'm satisfied with an existence, unwitnessed
Maybe without this I'll be more persistent
Maybe without your company I'll be pushed further
to leave behind a legacy.
I'll tell this to myself in order to spend some nights
without insomnia. sleeping peacefully.

The annoying trend in hope is its recession after rising.
To give in too quickly to my merriment seems almost foolish
They'll try to convince me with grandeur stories; still unconvincing.
You'll dangle this 'love' in front of me like a carrot on shoestrings.

And the height of these erected walls are slightly daunting
I've only realized how thick they've become on close examining
I've thought nothing of them until recent, they've always provided
such comfortable padding; my personal haven.

You'll still have to break them.
