Self-Partnered Poem by Sheena Blackhall

Self-Partnered

For over twenty years I've been self-partnered.
I don't find my snoring offensive
I'm happy to steer my ship without a mate
My favourite friend is a book. My time's my own
I'm married to myself, I'm a sologamist
I'm not the half of anything: I'm the whole hog
I have not gone blind or developed hirsute hands
I treat myself to holidays, dining out
I never have to compromise my views
I never have to endure another's buddies
Since I consciously uncoupled,
I won't again have to walk that maze, divorce

There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of

Tracy Emin married a rock in her garden in France
The wedding dress she chose was her father's shroud
A British woman married a dolphin in Israel
She gave him a kiss and a herring
In Las Vegas, a bride wed a sandwich, crusts included

Other bridegrooms have been as intriguing
A roller coaster, a clay pot, and a snake
Not forgetting a video game by the name of Pierre
