Sense Of Self Poem by C.F. Wilkins

Sense Of Self

I won't walk in self deception
Of being more than who I am.
Bear with me in clear reception
Of my honest self-exam.

I don't claim to be the best
Nor do I think I should.
Of this, mistakes will attest
Lest I am misunderstood.

Don't think too highly of me,
I might let you down.
I'm just a common entity
In which flaws can be found.

You might say without a doubt
Self-pity has taken full control.
But that's not so and this I'll shout.
You see, maturity has tamed my soul.

Judge me not in my inventory
Of self-abasing humility.
For pride can lift to unsafe glory
And cloud one's good ability.

So look at me and scrutinize
And see that I am plain.
And step by step my purpose lies
In striving to attain.

Because I know I shall endure
When with trouble I have striven,
Of this great fact I am sure:
I know I am forgiven.
