Serenade To Summer Poem by TMA

Serenade To Summer

Rating: 5.0

The sun overhead is shining
And I bathe in its golden rays
After rain my heart was pining
For just these golden, sunlit days
The earth seems to be rejoicing
Once more to see his fiery glare
Birds with vibrant joy are voicing
Their happy songs into the air.

The sky overhead is deep blue
The clouds float lazily above
The sky reminds, with its deep hue
Me of the deepness of our love…
And sky and earth, though far apart
Call each other through the distance
Just as now my lonely heart
Longs for you, even this instant.

The sky sings to the earth with songs
Of loud, mighty, rumbling thunder
The earth replies, earnest and long
With much shuddering and tremors
Like us, surely, they must; one day-
Come fairest or foulest weather-
Breach the gap that keeps them at bay
And finally be together?

The last verse takes off in the finest of poetry-'The sky sings to the earth--'.. Cliff Richard had a hit with 'Here comes Summer' but both of us wrote serenades to summer. I wrote mine many years ago and it's in my first collection 'Droving' so you have brought back good memories to me as well as entertaining me with a very nice love poem.10.

It is a lovely serenade....I quite like it. You described the beauty of summer well all through. But since the Word of God compares the distance of the heavens from the earth like this....Ps 103: 11 'For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him.' I am inclined to think the two shall never embrace.....but for you and your love, I do hope you may soon unite forever.
