Serendipity Poem by Paul Ogbuigwe

Serendipity

Seven billion souls wandering across five hundred million square kilometres,
Some with purpose and others without.
Pattering feet creating a chaotic cacophony.
A butterfly flaps its wings and thousands drown.
And yet I am thankful.

Across thousands of miles you found your way to her.
Two hundred million souls in this country alone,
And yet your two souls met, the spark of love was lit.
A little nudge from God created beauty out of chaos,
And so I am grateful.

Billions of souls here now,
Billions more waiting to come.
The spark lit a fire, a signal to God.
And my immaterial soul gained corporeal form,
A fortuitous selection of body, soul, and family.
And so I am content.

Our symphony began with a divine sonata,
In leisurely adagio we skipped through infancy,
Then came the violent crescendo of youth,
Chaos returned once again.
Yet in that turbulence the fire of love still burned bright,
So we found our way to a playful scherzo,
And I am gleeful.

The symphony continues to this day,
Where the tune will take us,
I do not know.
But I am glad to dance with you,
Joyful you were born on this day,
Delighted by all the serendipitous blessings,
Which placed me in your arms.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem for my father on his birthday. We've been through a lot, lost a few family members, so I wanted to show him that those of us left loved and cherished him beyond all death and to eternity.
