Sestina: Phoenix Of The Nightingale Poem by Kieran John J McGuigan

Sestina: Phoenix Of The Nightingale

I
Rise above, sing again, sweet Nightingale
With Whistling wings through forests assail.
Unbeknown, go, fly alone, cantillate desires
Whiz swift, red nightly singer of the fire
Brave the tempest chase of heart entangled love
Flare in flambeaux tail to enchantments of the Dove

II
In greenwood shades ‘mid Oak & Ash, swirls the Dove
disturbing nests, wherein sweet Nightingale
seduced, espies her raving charm like fire
weaving eyes and wings soar rising-low assail
tempting new sensational appetites in Love.
In She flew, & the greenwood sang desires.

III
And superstition temps his high desires
Swift he swirls, red firework bullet rushes to the Dove
Her velvet furs in winter wings spread over Love
Go, leave the nest, sail on, young Nightingale
Ride on ways of the road, beyond the sun assail
Wing swift chariots through the wind to fire.

IV
Where phosphorus fumes fly ablaze wildfire
Fly the homeward health field ranges in desire
He chased her moves of naked wildness assail
Soared high with song among the symphonies of the Dove
Find her through the wind, fly lost nightingale
Ride the tempest chase of her affectious love.

V
Thro' nitrous fumes ‘mid hunting air, flew young nightingale
In hurricane gales of rage in mad, black desire
He sought her light beyond the stars to Love,
Persisting, ever nearer toward his dancing Dove
She among stars beyond the moon assail.

VI
In troubled flight beyond the air assail
Our weary nightingale befell the chase of Love.
Beneath dark tempest never near, nor held the Dove
Flaming winds among the Ash Trees, set afire
disintegrating into dust, as winds that hush in harsh desires
Arise as Phoenix from the ashes of the Nightingale.

Envoi

So endures the Dove assailing tempest fire
That from the nest to stars in loves desire
Flames of Phoenix, arise from fallen Nightingale.
