Shackled By Darkness Poem by esther kagori

Shackled By Darkness

I will jump up with a smile,
jump
jump up with joy,
only when my fantasy shows,
i will sing like the birds,
when that dream comes true,
i will dance in the light,
when my people see the light.

My people live in darkness,
maybe from roots of ancestors,
dictation from old colonialists,
blinded by new colonizers,
hatred to facts,
they are of our blood,
dried minds for justice,
thirst for power,
no care of dying ones.

Drive from the inhumane,
my people fight amongst,
they lose loved ones,
lose property,
they step behind,
wail for nothing,
when their minds carry the roots.
i will jump
jump
jump with a smile,
when my people realize the light.

Jump,
I will jump up and down,
when we shall all see the light.
