Shall I? Poem by Fiona Burgess

Shall I?

Shall I defy the wind with my rage?
Challenge the ocean with my tears?
Shall I fight my way from this mortal cage
And summon the courage to face my fears?
Shall I wander down this path alone
Being whatever I wish to be?
Shall I listen to the earth howl and moan?
Or shall I ignore all in my desire to be free?
Shall I yeild to the whims of fate?
Or shall I battle to claim whats mine?
Shall I learn to love or hate
Or succumb to a plan more divine?
Shall I lay my head down to sleep
On a pillow of feathery down?
Or am I cursed, my sins to deep
To throw off this barbed wire crown?
Shall I dream of golden days
Or of skies cast in steel?
Shall my soul gleam in glorious haze
Or must I see what's real?
Shall I? Will I? These questions in my heart
Do they make me yearn?
Pulling the threads away part by part
Shall I someday learn?

Good poem. You are so young and yet with so much sadness. Life should lie before you like a brilliant golden shine, a canvas for you to paint as you go, colours cheerful, like the merriment of wine...
