Shame On Me! Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Shame On Me!

Shame on me!

I’m wearing your clothes
Shame on me!

Like a wolf turned to dog
I shepherd your style
Shame on me!

Like a snake from dunes (Its habitat)
Gliding I’m moving not crawl
Shame on me!

I’m walking in your shoes
With the holes in my tongue
I’m talking with your words (Don’t make sense)
I betray ancestors
Shame on me!

Their land and their culture you’ve taken
Deep in nowhere-ness you’ve turned them to vapor
On it all I am you (The killer)
Shame on me!

Sacred ghosts, ancestors, sure I mean “Shame on me! ”

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Like the Indigenous people, my ancestors' land and culture was turned into vapors and I am using parts of the invaders' language.
