Shattered Gaze Poem by Ridah Ellahi

Shattered Gaze

Held me close to you,
Every word you said was true.
But you promised me,
To be with me for all eternity.

Now that I need your touch,
You are not here.
Wish I could reach out to you,
Wish you were near.

I am like a bird in the cold,
Helpless and alone.
I beg for you to come,
Come and take me back home.

Can’t you see my wings are broken?
I can not fly.
Why did you desert me?
Why did you leave me here to die?

I need your warmth.
I am battered and blue.
With every breath I take,
I inhale you.

Can’t keep going on.
How do I spend these days?
My tears call out to you,
From behind my shattered gaze.
