She Poem by Chiisomo Soboya

She

i held her cold hand
hearing her harsh brittle words spill out from her palm rose lips to him.
fear conquered my temple causing a tremor within me.
her face, stone
hiding all that was once kind and gentle
his face, ridge
muscles clenched as he stares at she
the raw anger in her hazel bronze eyes turned to a blaze,
nested into a tiny ball
my tremor turned rapidly into violent trembles
she felt them then said 'hussh'
and for the briefest second i felt her
stare in the windows of my eyes
and nothing else present mattered
she held my hand and stilled my fears,
she whisphered
'worry not, my love, worry not
he took himself but he will be damned if he tries to take you'
at the sound of her daggers he grunts; soft but hard
his face a spitting image, of a lethal weapon as he stared at she.
i turned to she
looking at her for the first time,
slowly everything turns upside down.
and to my surprise i felt trembles and sensed fears
but not within me.
within she.
i turned my angry face to her and saw what i had refused to see
her voice was no longer strong and brave but was now weak and husky
'he took himself but he will be damned if he tries to take you'
i see myself in her suddenly.
