She Bent Over From The Heaviness Of Burdens Poem by Clarissa Burton

She Bent Over From The Heaviness Of Burdens

Stacked upon her back
The guilt of others who pretend to care
But refuse to share in the sorrows
The weight was robbing her
Of her inner life and light

With arms outstretched toward the sun
She closes her eyes
In a soft, tender voice
Her words are powerful
“Release me! ”

The sun’s rays beam gently upon her forehead
Kissing it softly
As if to say,
“You are finally free to be the woman this world has waited for.”

The warmth of the electric rays
Engulfed her soul
The smile freely spread across her face
Letting her know she was finally free
To walk out of the torrid gates
Of stereotypical mental slavery

The Black woman
The African woman
The Colored woman
African-American
The moniker doesn’t matter

She is free
To be a woman like all others
No privileges
Just honor and respect

Her womanhood is why
This world exists
Without her we all shall die

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Susan Lacovara 19 February 2014

Indeed powerful, and timely. Applauding the often unseen struggle of women, of all races, creeds and color...For those who bravely still struggle, on a daily basis, for simple respect and equality, the fight continues, worldwide. We can be more compassionate and elevate women, to the greater heights deserved. Wonderful piece, thank you. PEACE
