She Will Stay Poem by Mohabeer Beeharry

She Will Stay

Rating: 5.0

That night my heart almost stopped.
Like thousands of fireflies caught in a race of explosive excitement
Rising, rising towards the street lights,
There was poetry in the air.

The breeze was warm
And tender,
The stars were quiet,
cheeky and tempting,
and setting my heart on fire.

She is back, dressed in gold
Not far,
Not near
She is here spelling a charm only home to her.

In the quiet of the night
She tickles the flowers
And spates of perfume fanned through the drunken air.

I know her,
She will stay till the first light of dawn
when the hills and mountains hail the glow of the rising sun
when the sea rises from its tumultuous dreams
And the restless bird breaks the shackles of his narrow cell
in wild ditties of ecstatic freedom.

I shall watch
As in a wide sweep
she flings her dress around
Sending displays of golden tinsels in the air
Leaving the stage to the mighty sun.
