Shoring My Heart Up Poem by The Poet Darkling

Shoring My Heart Up

I was shoring my heart up for the break
Really wasn't sure how much it would take
I wondered what kind of excuse you'd make
While everything I held dear was at stake

I then resorted to a desperate act,
‘Cuz the Devil and I had made a pact
I'd give him my soul, 'twas already cracked
And you would leave me with my heart intact

But didn't take me long to realize
That, just like yours, his promises were lies
And, I knew once I saw him in your eyes
That it was about time that I got wise

Had been a long time since you stole my smile
Since I gave you that inch, but you took a mile
I had gone and lived in Limbo awhile
But I've come back now ‘cuz Hell ain't my style

So, go on now, don't you worry ‘bout me
I had to look hard, but I finally see
You weren't the whole forest, but just a tree
And there really ARE more fish in the sea
