Show me where the sunbeams go
when night stretches out its wings
and covers all in raven black
and evensong it sings.
Show me where a bird’s song goes
when the notes have left its throat
and silence then pervades the air
just as the poets wrote.
Show me where our dream thoughts go
as we open up our eyes
to greet the sunrise of a waking day
and follow a new prize.
Show me where our laughter goes
as we turn to face the call
of a busy new and hurried day
that soon begins to crawl.
Show me all these things I ask
of primary worth
and I will give you all I have
my heart, my soul, my mirth.
