Silence Poem by Christian Muller

Silence

In the dark I sing your praise,
‘spite the biting chill of night.
I am subject to your gaze.
Yet I lack the gift of sight.
Frost and fear and burning pain
Fleeting hope and love in vain
But all I hear is silence.

Dusk I watch with weary eyes.
Rising sun that lights the land.
Golden clouds and scarlet skies
Ease my soul and trembling hand.
Cold that moves with morning breeze
Rattling red and waking trees
But all I hear is silence.

At noon upon the hills, I call
Swelt'ring in the burning heat.
Sun that fails to cool or fall,
Heart that fears to claim defeat.
Soul that falters now and shakes
Voice thar strains from pain and breaks
But all I hear is silence.

Sun that sets below the waves,
Crashing on the fading strand.
Viewing fit for fools and knaves
Standing on the fleeting sand.
Dying day that comes to close
Light that flees as darkness grows
But all I hear is silence.

Naked under heaven's scorn,
Subject to a thousand eyes.
Spirit crushed and hope forlorn,
Trapped between the truth and lies.
I plea for your boundless grace,
And an end to this petty chase.
But all I hear is silence.
