Silken Petals Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Silken Petals

Sally bought a new hat
It was of woven straw
Laden with pink posies
The most stunning you ever saw

Proud as she could possibly be
Feeling somewhat arrogant
She wore it to a summer garden
Beautifully realistic and fragrant

Blending in with the floral display
As she leaned down to inspect
A lovely combination of harmony
Surrounded by a swarm of insects

The authenticity was so convincing
That bees and bugs delighted
Attracted to the beguiling bonnet
Gathering at the event uninvited

Sally suddenly became hysterical
Lifting the enhanced hat frantically
Throwing it to the trampled ground
Forsaking her fondness with ambiguity

The choice to abandon was devastating
It was the only option that made sense
The hasty decision was not optional
Her fear of being harmed was immense

In the scheme of botanical things it is noted
Marvelous silken petals had successfully imitated
Nature’s creation sufficiently to fool the eye
Inspiring the unsuspecting to become animated
