Simply Bound Poem by Howie Kolson

Simply Bound

I was hollow and you filled me.
I was broken and you healed me.
I was one with darkness until you shone on me.
It's great, the distance
and long, the time
but these things mean nothing to the heart.
These things are of the mind
and of the world,
and neither can tear down what we've built.
They can only make it stronger.
You are the mast to which I've tied myself
until I weather this storm.
You are the solitary beacon of light
leading me through what seems an endless ebon.
Time will pass and distance will close
and soon enough
there we'll stand, the pheonix and the flame,
united against all and one unto each other.
I once thought there was no place for the ones like us
but perhaps the only real place we belong
is together,
bound in beautiful simplicity
and simple beauty.
