Sit Beside Me Poem by Gulliver Gimble

Sit Beside Me

Come, come sit beside me.
Tell me your life's lengthy story.
The pauses before crashes.
You surely have great survival skills.
Start again and tell me about the mud.
The mud slick hills in France.
The ones you could not climb.
The ones that saved you from German fire.
You never liked the 60's.
You said it was full of long haired fools.
And their children mutated into the 80's and 90's.
Laughing at my generation.
What generation? You would say.
Come. Come sit beside me.
Tell me about walking to church on Sundays.
Eating soft churned ice cream at the mercantile.
How your sister ran away with a gypsy in 49.
It has been over 15 years since I had last seen you.
You now sit and talk with my dad.
Because you know, he would like the company.
Just as I did Mr. Doul
Sit beside me.
Tell me a story.
One more time.
