Sky Poem by Paul Reed

Sky

The air fell softly along rock edges
In a whispering autumnal refrain
We lay back and looked at the great grey sky
A sky that would never be the same again;

Sculptured fringes among nothingness
Subdued by the movement of air
Hidden lights behind wispy veils
A deep and downward smothered stare;

No artist even with delicate brush
Could capture the invisibility of heaven's cloak
Sketch a better place lying in wait for us
Beyond this earthly smoke
