Slave Poem by Mihailo Sviderski

Slave

I am a slave
and the master is entitled
over my life and my death
and my conscience is
to serve him.
Nevertheless, despite everything,
I have my own value
because they buy me on the market
for silver coin.
Anthropoid ** -
so they call me
and transport me by boat
from Corinth to Smyrna. In the Greek Polis.
And Iknow nothing about Demosthenes and Plato.

**Animal with human legs
