Sleeping Handsome Poem by Pippa Moss

Sleeping Handsome

The King and Queen were full of joy
On the birth of a bouncing baby boy
This occasion needed a special day
Where everyone could come and say
How much they loved the future king
So they all began to shout and sing
But while making this almighty din
An uninvited woman snuck right in
The King and Queen had been so rude
This guest was not one to exclude
A lady celeb called Angelina Jolie
She approached the cradle creeping slowly
‘This child must be adopted by me
His life will be much better, you see'
She took wads of money out a purse
When the King yelled ‘NO! ' she uttered a curse
‘He's going to snooze for a hundred years
You'll never get to hear his tears'
With a disgruntled snort she disappeared
The guests all commented ‘That was weird'
The boy grew up and by age sixteen
Was heavily into the sewing scene
He practiced needlework nearly every day
Much to his father's great dismay
His skills were getting very quick
But one sad day he felt a prick
He suddenly fell into a dreamless sleep
As thorns and brambles covered the keep
Princesses were desperate to get to the teen
With looks like Harry Styles and so super clean

The first Princess, she followed the trail
Distraught, turned back when she broke a nail
Number two quit the task in great despair
When giant thorns started tangling her hair
The third Princess to try the same
Snapped her Jimmy Choos heel and… oops, went lame
Lots more girls then tried and failed
They all went home, they cried and wailed
Then a clever Princess ventured from afar
Hired herself a gardener
An expert in the invasive weed
Could he be the hero to succeed?
Spraying, trimming, snipping, burning
He made a route all twisting, turning
Soon you could see an impressive path
Not many do topiary like that so fast
The last princess, she strode behind
Excited beyond belief as to what she'd find
They burst through the gates and up to the room
The princess saw him there and went all a-swoon
The gardener rushed forward and planted a kiss
He'd planned for days, no chance of a miss
The princess looked on and said with a yelp
‘Leave my boy alone, you're just paid help! '
The handsome boy fluttered his sleepy eyes
Looked up at the gardener with no surprise
‘Phew you've come at last you gorgeous chap
Fancy a prick causing such a long nap! '

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A group of us, including kids, wrote this together sharing ideas in the car on a long journey to the airport. I typed all the ideas in to my phone and tided it up as we went. We all enjoyed it so much!
