2020 Poem by Pippa Moss

2020

Rating: 5.0

If there was ever a year to reflect on plenty
It was the blasted year of 2020
You really got to know your home
Counted your blessings, tried not to moan
When life took on a whole new look
As Covid grabbed the world and shook
Our normal world into ‘unprecedented times'
Where parties and fun could lead to fines

Society was forced to slow down the pace
And only go out with a mask on their face
Parents had to get to grips with teaching
Simultaneously in a work video meeting
So many people with fear of being ill
Shielding, but not knowing when until
Others convinced on a conspiracy theory
Not coping with life becoming so dreary

Technology forced to advance in a rush
So friends and family could keep in touch
Spirits kept up by excessive baking
While officials' boots were surely quaking
Looking like fools trying to show the way
Too many mistakes on too many a day
2020 was like living in some film
Surreal scenes that could overwhelm
The world was warned, not really cared
Advanced so much, but not prepared.
